Dog Competitions

Competitions

Barillà Kennels Canada takes pride in hosting competitions and has created their own “Barillà” bloodline of champion winners both with English and Setter Pointers.

We compete our dogs in field trials not only to improve their breed but to make sure our bird dogs do not become “kennel blind”.  Barillà Kennels Canada hosts their own Annual Field Trial every year and is also host to the National Shoot to Retrieve Association (NSTRA) in Canada.  They also are experts in training dogs for CKC competitions.

Barillà Kennels Canada encourages Canadians to get out and support their local clubs and have fun watching these amazing dogs perform.

Barilla Kennels Annual Field Trial

Barillà Kennels Canada hosts a Field Trial to their friends and clients who have Pointer dogs that want to brush up on their hunting skills and have a fun-filled day with their gun dog and families.  The event is held on a weekend, either a Saturday or Sunday and a homemade lunch is provided to the participants and their families.  Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placements and the 1st place winner gets their name and their dogs name on the Barillà Kennels trophy.

National Shoot to Retrieve Association

Barillà Kennels Canada is host to approximately 10 NSTRA Field Trial competitions a year from April to September.

These competitions give the owners / handlers the advantage to test the working ability of their gundogs and themselves in competitive conditions after the winter season and to provide experience to their dogs between hunting seasons.

The gundogs are tested on their game finding ability and the speed and directness of the retrieve, as well as quick pick up and fast returns, natural nose and marking ability, quietness in handling, control, drive and style.  The winter training brings out these traditional working abilities for each category of gundog in the shooting field which includes many breeds of Pointer dogs such as the English Pointer, Setter Pointer, German Wirehaired Pointer (GSP), Brittany (Spaniel) Pointer, Vizsla, Griffon, and Pudel Pointers.

The Field Trials also provide owners / handlers the opportunity to get together with NSTRA members and their families to share stories of their hunting dog experiences and to enjoy a weekend of fun-filled engagement while chowing down on a scrumptious homemade lunch prepared by Barillà Kennels Canada.

Canada Kennel Club

The Canada Kennel Club is governed events that offer a wonderful opportunity for dogs and their owners to showcase their skills, training, and abilities.  These shows or events are level achieving competitions which involve lure coursing, field trials, tracking and herding to agility, rally obedience, conformation and more.

Owners have brought their dogs to Barillà Kennels Canada to be trained by Santo Barillà for CKC competitions where dogs as young as 8 months old have obtained 1st, 2nd and 3rd placements.
